James Pecis was born in Redding, California in 1980. After working in a salon in San Francisco, James moved to New York and joined the Bumble & Bumble team in 2004.
After assisting Jimmy Paul for a few years on fashion shows and shoots, James began his session career in 2007 by moving to London and has since headed his own shows such as Anne Valerie Hash and Meadham Kirchoff. James was named Session Stylist of the Year at the 2011 Most Wanted awards.
I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Mr Pecis a few years ago in New York through my Bumble and Bumble connections where he helped me on some of my New York shows. We’ve become friends and I’m strangely very proud of his achievements considering I haven’t played a big part in his rise to success. He is living proof that if you work hard…………well…….. I don’t need to say anymore, just take a look at his amazing work. He deserves all the success he’s had up to now!!!
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP?
Pro skater…. Just skateboard every day.
HOW DID YOU END UP DOING WHAT YOU’RE DOING NOW?
I was playing in a band and had a gig in SF. I met up with a friend who took me to a salon there named “architects and heroes” where I waited while she had her color and cut done. I was mesmerised by everything that was going on there. It seemed like the perfect combination for a career….. Working with people, the chance to be creative, and being able to keep your independence. I loved it from the day I started and I have never lost that feeling.
